What Is Butterfly Pea Flower?
Butterfly pea flower or *Clitoria ternatea*, a climbing plant native to Southeast Asia. It's been used for centuries in traditional Ayurvedic and Thai medicine — not as a trendy wellness add-on, but as a functional botanical that people have trusted for a long time.
The flower itself is what ends up in your cup. Nothing else. Bluebird is 100% butterfly pea flowers — loose leaf, botanical, no additives.

It turns Blue (And Then Purple)
Butterfly pea flower is loaded with anthocyanins, the same water-soluble pigments that give blueberries, red cabbage, and purple sweet potatoes their color. Anthocyanins are pH-sensitive — they're blue in neutral water, and shift toward red and purple as acidity increases. A squeeze of lemon drops the pH, and the color follows.
Brew Bluebird at 212°F for 5–10 minutes and you get a deep, vivid blue. Squeeze in a little lemon juice — or any acid — and watch it shift

You're my boy blue!
Butterfly pea flower isn't caffeinated, so you can enjoy it anytime and it brings you:
**Antioxidants.** Anthocyanins are potent antioxidants. Research suggests they help neutralize free radicals and may support cardiovascular health and reduce oxidative stress over time.
**Naturally caffeine-free.** If you're cutting back on caffeine or looking for something to drink later in the day, Bluebird delivers. No crash, no jitteriness, no reason you can't have a second cup at 9pm.
**Anti-inflammatory properties.** Studies point to anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects, consistent with its long history of use in traditional medicine.
**Cognitive support.** Some research suggests butterfly pea flower may support memory and cognitive function — it's been used in traditional contexts for neurological health for generations. The science is still developing, but it's not coming from nowhere.
**Mild flavor, high utility.** The taste is subtle — earthy, slightly floral, not assertive. That makes it extremely versatile. Drink it straight, add lemon to turn it purple, build it into a latte, or use it as a base for something more complex.

How to Brew Bluebird
- **Temp:** 212°F (full boil)
- **Steep:** 5–10 minutes
- **Ratio:** 1.5g per 8–12oz of water
- **Format:** Loose leaf — use an infuser or brew directly and strain
The longer you steep, the deeper the color. 5 minutes gives you a bright, clear blue. 10 minutes goes darker and more intense. Both taste the same; it's a visual preference.
To get the color shift: brew first, then add something acidic — lemon juice, lime, a splash of citrus tea.
